7.2 Action Plan

Now that you have watched the video, teach your child the skill of Following Instructions. It may be helpful to have them watch the video a few times so they understand the concept.

Using the printed steps to Following Instructions, choose a simple task that can be done quickly to practice this skill. Practice this skill with you first demonstrating how to do it and then having your child do it. Feel free to use a game or activity to help you teach this skill. Once your child is able to do it successfully without problems, use Effective Praise to praise them for their efforts.

Set a goal with your child to practice the skill of Following Instructions at least two times within a 24 hour period.

Set a watch or time to remind you during the day.

Following Instructions appears to be easy but it can be challenging when children struggle. The important thing for parents is to remain calm and follow the steps consistently. This is a skill tha.
